A Perfect Day of Kiteboarding in La Ventana, BCS, Mexico
The December sun rose gently over La Ventana, casting a warm glow on the Sea of Cortez. After a quick breakfast at Palapas Ventana, I could already feel the excitement building for the day ahead. The wind conditions were perfect—steady and reliable, just as they tend to be this time of year. December in La Ventana is known for its consistent winds, making it an ideal destination for kiteboarders of all levels.
By mid-morning, I met Simone, my instructor, down at the beach. He greeted me with a smile, his enthusiasm for the sport infectious. We went over the plan for the day: a downwinder far down the beach from Palapas Ventana. The launch was smooth, with Simone providing expert guidance, ensuring everything was set up perfectly.
As I caught the wind and began to glide across the water back toward the resort, I felt a rush of freedom. The coastline of La Ventana stretched out before me, a beautiful mix of rugged desert and clear blue water. The ride was exhilarating, the kind of experience that makes you fall in love with kiteboarding all over again. Simone was never far, offering support and tips through our shared radio, making sure I was comfortable and confident.
The wind carried me effortlessly down the beach, the sound of the water and the feeling of the sun on my skin creating a sense of pure joy. As I approached the landing spot, Simone was there, ready to assist with a smooth and safe landing. The sense of accomplishment was overwhelming—I had just completed an incredible downwinder in one of the most beautiful places on earth.
After packing up the gear, it was time to relax. I made my way to the jacuzzi at El Anzuelo restaurant, right on the Palapas Ventana property. With a refreshing margarita in hand, I settled into the warm water, letting the jets soothe my tired muscles. The view was breathtaking—the Sea of Cortez stretched out in front of me, the sun beginning its descent toward the horizon.
As I sipped my drink, I watched other kiteboarders out on the water, their kites dancing in the late afternoon breeze. The peacefulness of the moment was the perfect end to an adventurous day. The combination of the stunning scenery, the thrill of kiteboarding, and the relaxation at the end of it all was exactly what I had hoped for when I planned my trip to La Ventana.
The day was a reminder of why I love kiteboarding—the connection to nature, the sense of freedom, and the pure joy of being out on the water. As the sun dipped lower, casting a golden hue over the sea, I knew that this day would be one of the highlights of my time in Baja.
